Winter Storm Warning Sunday 6 to 8 Hours Snow Forecast

There are no major changes in the forecast outlook for Sunday. Winter Storm Warnings continue over a large area that extends from interior Virginia northeastward to  Southeastern New England. This includes the major cities of Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC and Boston. Winter Weather Advisories continue on either side of this band as snow amounts will be below warning criteria.

Snow forecasts haven’t really changed much today as weather models tend to tug back and forth, at times a little higher, at times a little lower. Forecast amounts remain essentially the same from earlier.

The setup ahead of it is one of general quiet and calm. While there are some high clouds on the satellite overhead, skies are mainly clear to the south before you get into the heavier cloud cover over the Southeast US. Here is where the precipitation is developing tonight. Temperatures overnight will settle in the low to middle 30s.

Radars are for the most part quiet but keep an eye on the regional radar of the Middle Atlantic where we expect to see precipitation increasing overnight so that radar should start loading up soon.

On to Sunday when snow will overspread the area from south to north early to mid morning and then gradually end from southwest to northeast during the mid to late afternoon. This basically puts the accumulating snow in a 6 to 8 hour timeframe and that will limit amounts from getting much above 6 inches in most places.

Once the storm departs cold air comes in. Temperatures Sunday during the snow will be in the low 30s or near 30 in heavier snow bands. Skies will clear Sunday night with lows in the upper teens and lower 20s. Monday looks nice and cold with sunshine. Highs will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
