Wind Data for export to google sheets : meteorology
1 min read
I’ve been poking around trying to find a source that is “more accurate” than weather.com (just learning about this but I assume that’s straight GFS data?) The application isn’t for sailing but for golf. I was told that windguru and windfinder had more accurate info, but neither provide an API unless you have a commercial license with them (I’m a hobbyist) or really allow for their data to be exported easily/automatically.
There are a few others and also charge fees into the thousands to access something like an API.
What I’m looking for is a source for wind forecasts for a specific location that might be … let’s just say best available. The person I’m working with says that windfinder and windguru provide better forecasts (those sites use a variety of models but not sure how they incorporate them) … what I need is data that parallels those models and I need a way to import it into google sheets for easy display in a table.
Any help / ideas? I have some programming skills but by no means a whiz.
