Widespread Rain Continues Across Alabama : The Alabama Weather Blog

2 min read

A stalled front, a large upper level low, and a surface low along I-20 east of Chipley, Florida are all working together on this Sunday afternoon to produce widespread rain across much of Alabama at this hour. The only part of the state exempt from the rain is southwestern sections arund Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington Counties.

An interesting mix of temperatures across the state, with 40s over a large area of North and North Central Alabama, but Scottsboro in Jackson County sticks out like a sore thumb with 50. The reason is that the rain is just beginning there. It’s 43F at Birmingham but 61F at Mobile.

The NWS in Tallahassee just issued a tornado warning for parts of Jefferson and Leon Counties in the Florida Panhandle east of Tallahassee. That is on the east side of that vigorous surface low. The pressure at Tyndall AFB is 29.37 inches. Pretty low.

Winds are gusting to 37 mph at Tallahassee and 31 mph at Jacksonville. Across Alabama, winds are gusting to 32 mph at Birmingham, and 26 mph at Dothan.

Wind advisories are in effect for Central Alabama today.

The rain will diminish from the south this evening.
