The Midday Weather Report — Most Locations Still in the Teens at This Point : The Alabama Weather Blog

2 min read

Other than a few thin clouds moving across the area, skies are mainly clear across Central Alabama as we make the run-up to the midday hour on this cold and frigid Christmas Eve. As of the 10 am roundup, temperatures across the area were ranging from the mid-teens to the lower 20s. Eufaula was the “warm” spot at 23º, while several stations, including Birmingham, were tied as the cold spots at 16º. Wind chills across much of the area are in the 0º to 10º range at this point.

The Wind Chill Advisory for Central Alabama expires at noon today, and so does the Wind Chill Warning for the Tennessee Valley counties. However, a new Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for DeKalb and Jackson counties until 9 am tomorrow morning. A Hard Freeze Warning continues until 9 am Monday morning.

For the rest of the daylight hours today, all of Central Alabama will remain below the freezing mark, even though we’ll have plenty of sunshine. Afternoon highs will only make it up into the mid 20s to the lower 30s across the area, but wind chills will remain in the teens or lower throughout the day. The good news is that we will not be as cold for the overnight as we were earlier this morning, but lows will still be down in the mid to upper teens. Wind chills will range from 3º to 15º.

Christmas Day will start off frigid, but we will finally get above freezing during the afternoon hours. Winds will be calmer, so the wind chills will be much closer to the actual temperatures. Highs will reach the lower 30s to the lower 40s.
