The Midday Report — Some Thin Clouds, But Otherwise Fantastic

VERY NICE WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES THIS WEEKEND
Currently, much of Central Alabama is experiencing partly to mostly sunny conditions, with temperatures rebounding nicely from the cool start earlier today. As of 11 am, temperatures across Central Alabama range from the 50s, with Troy recording the warmest spot at 60ºF.

Throughout the remainder of the daylight hours, we anticipate high, thin clouds to pass through the area, which may filter out some sunshine. However, no precipitation is expected. High temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid 60s to lower 70s. Tonight, we may observe a few passing clouds, but overall skies should remain mainly clear, with overnight lows ranging from the upper 30s to mid 40s.

Looking ahead to Sunday, expect a significant warm-up as a southerly flow prevails over Central Alabama, ushering in warmer and more humid air. While skies will be mostly sunny for much of the day, some clouds will start to increase during the evening and overnight hours. There’s a slight chance of isolated to scattered showers after midnight, although the overall likelihood remains low. High temperatures are expected to range from the mid to upper 70s.

SEVERE WEATHER ROUND-UP FROM THIS PAST WEEK
On April 2, 2024, Central Alabama braced for a stormy evening as a system of strong thunderstorms swept through. Among them, a potent storm brewed in Perry County, spawning four tornadoes and pockets of wind damage as it carved a path of destruction. Plantersville (EF-1) felt the tornado’s wrath, with trees snapped and roads blocked. Pools Crossroads (EF-1) saw scattered damage, from downed trees to flattened trailers. Kings Bridge (EF-1) and Kellyton (EF-0) also witnessed brief but impactful tornado touchdowns, leaving a trail of timber wreckage in their wake. Despite the chaos, thankfully, there were no serious injuries or fatalities.
