The Late Morning Weather Report — Clouds Continue to Build from the West & Southwest

2 min read

We have clouds moving further into the area from the west and southwest from a disturbance that is dropping showers across the Gulf Coast. While we are not expecting any rain in Central Alabama, there are a few returns on radar over portions of Barbour and Russell counties where virga may be occurring.

Temperatures as of the 10 am Hourly Weather Roundup were in the lower 40s to the lower 50s with no rain reported at any station. Troy was the warm spot at 52º. The cold spot was Haleyville at 42º. It was 45º at the Birmingham International Airport.

It looks like all the National Weather Service Weather Radio transmitters across the area are currently off the air due to a technical malfunction. Technicians have been dispatched to investigate the issue and a solution will hopefully be found quickly. The good news is that there is no severe weather to worry about.

So clouds will continue to increase across the area, but we’ll continue to stay dry and cool. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 40s to the upper 50s. Skies will be mostly cloudy through the overnight hours, but that won’t keep those temperatures from dropping. Overnight lows in the mid 20s to the upper 30s.

Clouds will be decreasing during the morning hours on Sunday and skies will be sunny by the afternoon hours. Unfortunately, the sun will not help out these cold temperatures much at all. Highs in the mid 40s to the lower 50s.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next five days over the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico. The end of the Atlantic Hurricane Season is November 30th.

Be careful out there on the roadways. Be patient, don’t tailgate, use your signals, and watch your speed. We have had too many unnecessary deaths on the roadways this year. Let’s make a difference and make it a goal for everyone to have a happy holiday season.
