Snow chance in DC next week

2 min read

While some models point to a wintery mix Tuesday, it most likely will end as rain.

WASHINGTON — Temperatures have been above average for the last few days and the mild winter conditions will stick around through the weekend. But next week, a flip in the weather pattern will bring in colder air and we could have just enough cold air around to get some snowflakes in the DMV.

We’re tracking a chance a storm system that will bring in rain and possibly snow late Monday night into Tuesday. The GFS (American model) brings in rain and snow Tuesday morning, ending as mostly snow Tuesday evening.

The European model (ECMWF) shows the opposite, with only rain in the forecast for the DMV and snow over Western Maryland and West Virginia.   The Euro model is running warmer and kicks the system out a little faster. It starts with rain Monday, ending by Tuesday morning.

Right now, the WUSA9 Weather Team is leaning on a mostly rain solution, but we will continue to monitor and update our analysis with each new model run.
