So saharan dust storms like that actually due happen quite frequently, though you are correct most of the time that much doesn’t make it to the Mediterranean. However, vast amounts of it spreads across the Atlantic and actually deposits int he soil in South America and is a big reason for the Amazon rainforest. It provides nutrients to the soil that aren’t naturally there.
