We have talked many times about the downward trend in violent (F/EF-4 or -5 intensity) tornadoes.
This is likely due to the warmer climate as compared to 50 years ago.
Until yesterday, I did not realize we were very close to setting a record since the last F-5 intensity tornado occurred:
With a hat tip to Andrew Siffert, if we go another 21 days without an F-5 we will break the record — a very good thing!
For the next five days there is no weather system I can see that would produce an F-5 tornado. I think we have a good chance of breaking the record.
