**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

MAGNIFICENT MARCH AFTERNOON: As advertised, we have sunshine in full supply this afternoon with temperatures generally between 70 and 75 degrees. Tonight will be clear and cool with a low in the 35-45 degree range for most places.

Tomorrow will be another dry day, although clouds will slowly increase during the day. The high will be in the mid 60s, and we will still mention some risk of a few sprinkles tomorrow night with an approaching disturbance, but moisture will be very limited, and most places won’t see any rain.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: After some morning clouds, the sky becomes sunny Saturday afternoon, and the day will be cooler with a high around 60 degrees. Sunday will feature sunshine in full supply with a high in the mid 60s.

NEXT WEEK: An upper ridge will be anchored over the Gulf of Mexico, keeping most of the rain producing systems north and west of Alabama. The high Monday will be in the upper 60s… close to 70 Tuesday, and in the low to mid 70s Wednesday through Friday. Still no sign of any major rain event for Alabama for the next 7 to 10 days.

THREE BIG QUAKES: Three very strong earthquakes have struck near New Zealand within 6 hours of one another today. The latest M8.1 earthquake has prompted a Tsunami Watch for Hawaii. The potential threat is still being evaluated there and for the west coast of North America by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

ON THIS DATE IN 1899: Cyclone Mahina, aka “The Bathurst Bay Hurricane” in Australia, was credited with having produced the highest storm surge on record in the world. The cyclone, with an estimated central pressure of 911 millibars or 26.90 inches of mercury, caused a 42.6-foot surge when it came ashore on the coast of northern Australia. The storm killed as many as 400 people and is currently Australia’s deadliest cyclone.
