Late Night Look at Alabama’s Weather : The Alabama Weather Blog

2 min read

Moderate to occasionally heavy rain covers most of Central Alabama tonight. There is a lot more embedded thunder and lightning than an hour ago as the activity has seen a bit of an uptick in coverage and intensity.

The heaviest rain is across parts of the Birmingham Metro, especially western sections, and between Demopolis and Montgomery.

The storms are not expected to become severe, but heavy rain could be an issue overnight. One-hour rainfall rates are generally less than one-half inch per hour, but some amounts approaching 1 inch per hour are occurring across western Jefferson County.

Winds will become gusty overnight and they will stay that way for much of the day. Winds could gust to 25 mph at times.

The rain will end from the west overnight, and skies will begin to clear over northwestern sections by 3 a.m. The clearing line will advance steadily southeast during the morning bringing bright sunshine to most areas fairly quickly.

After morning lows in the 50s, daytime highs on Sunday will be in the upper 60s North with lower and middle 70s Central.

Next rain chances: late Thursday or Friday.
