Late Afternoon Weather Check — Marginal Risk Up for the Tennessee Valley Late Sunday

2 min read

Fair weather cumulus clouds continue to fill a good bit of the sky across Central Alabama this afternoon, with some cirrus clouds mixed in as well. Radar remains dry as we have reached the 3 pm hour, but there is some moisture lurking around to our southwest. If anything is able to develop from now through tonight, it will be very isolated and small in coverage. Same with the overnight hours as well, as latest guidance from the HRRR is showing very little at all in the way of rain. If anyone sees any rain today and tonight, it will be west of a line from Hamilton to Tuscaloosa to Selma, and chances are less than 20%. We’ll go from the mid to upper 80s this afternoon down to the lower to mid 60s for the overnight low.

Rain coverage is looking less likely as well on Sunday, as the long-range HRRR continues to show a lack of rain development until the evening hours. At first, showers will develop over the southern half of the area before dissipating, with more showers and storms developing over the northeastern parts and eventually filling back in to the west over the rest of the Tennessee Valley and into the northern parts of Central Alabama.

SPC has issued a Marginal Risk for the Tennessee Valley region of Alabama for those storms moving across that region during the evening through the overnight hours. Isolated damaging wind gusts will be the main threat in those locations.

That activity will continue on into the early morning hours on Monday before they start to dissipate. Much, if not all, of the area will be dry through the daylight hours on Sunday, and highs will be up in the mid to upper 80s for most, with a few lower 80s in the eastern and southeastern parts.
