Jet Streams and Moonbeams: A Tuscaloosa Night Sky Marvel : The Alabama Weather Blog

1 min read

In a moment of celestial serendipity, Cole Patterson, an engineering major at the University of Alabama, captured a breathtaking image earlier this week that embodies the beauty of the night sky over Tuscaloosa.

Cole expertly photographed the full moon in all its glory using his Canon camera equipped with a telephoto lens. However, the photo harbors a delightful surprise—an airplane, believed to be the regional jet en route from Charlotte to Shreveport, elegantly silhouetted against the moon’s radiant surface.

This extraordinary photo, a testament to timing and skill, reminds us of the wonders that unfold above us, often unnoticed, and the remarkable intersections between human ingenuity and the natural world.

Thanks to his dad, Dr. Coleman Patterson, from the University of Oklahoma, who shared the photo.
