Good evening all!
This tutorial will consist of a series of short videos produced by the NHC in Miami, FL. The videos are a little older and cover some past seasons / storms, and probably contain some past NHC employees. There are a total of 7 videos from the NHC, and one from DHS. The videos from the NHC will briefly cover topics such as overview of a hurricane, storm surge, wind, etc. This will be followed by videos showing how to board up your windows in preparation for the arrival of hurricane force winds. Even though hurricane season seems far enough off, I cannot stress enough, to begin putting the proper materials together far enough ahead of time to prepare when the time comes. This will help avoid any cost increase and shortage of supplies as a storm threatens, and everybody decides at one time they need materials. The videos from the NHC do not necessarily go through preparation procedures, however contain good information regarding various aspects of hurricane threats.
The video on preparing your windows will show you various ways to accomplish boarding up. JUST REMEMBER…DO THIS ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOME!
In the event you are placed under a Hurricane Watch / Warning…DO NOT TAPE YOUR WINDOWS! Taping windows WILL NOT KEEP THE WIND OUT. PLEASE, install plywood shutters, metal shutters or polycarbonate panels. These items are used vice taping, to try and prevent windows from being shattered. Once your windows shatter, wind will enter your home, and most likely cause your roof to come off, causing your home to collapse around you!

The following video should give you a fairly decent idea on how to install plywood shutters, polycarbonate panels, and metal shutters. Minimum thickness should be 5/8 inch plywood, and installed on the exterior of your dwelling.

As time allows, I will be piecing together my 2023 Hurricane Season, Pre Season Forecast and will post when it’s complete. As it stands at the moment, IF climate modeling pans out, it appears the 2023 season will come in below average.
