Black Ice Developing on Roadways Across Portions of North/Central Alabama : The Alabama Weather Blog

Black ice is now forming on major roadways and highways across North/Central Alabama, to go along with the roadways already covered with ice and sleet from the wintry precipitation that fell earlier today. Areas of flurries have also developed over the past several minutes behind the cold front, but these should not add to any accumulations that have already occurred. As temperatures continue to plummet, expect more black ice issues to develop. Here are a list of some of the travel issues that have been reported so far:

Chilton County
Ice on SR-145/Lay Dam Road near SR-22.

Colbert County
All road and bridges maintained by the county road department are impassable.

Fayette County
All road and bridges maintained by the county road department are impassable.

Lamar County
All road and bridges maintained by the county road department are impassable.

Madison County
Ice on bridge US-231/431 at mile marker 335.8 at Oakwood Avenue (Huntsville)
Ice on road SR-255 at mile marker 3.9 near Oakwood Road (Huntsville)
Ice on bridge SR-255 at mile marker 4.9 at Plummer Road (Huntsville)

Marion County
All road and bridges maintained by the county road department are impassable.

Pickens County
All road and bridges maintained by the county road department are impassable.
All state routes are impassable.

Tuscaloosa County (ice on roadways)
AL-171 at mile marker 23.6 at Lazy Creek Road
AL-171 at mile marker 17.9 at Old Moores Bridge Road
AL-171 at mile marker 12.4 at Mormon Road/CR-35
AL-69 at mile marker 157.4 at Guy Road (Northport)
US-43 at mile marker 209.2 at Old Fayette Road (Northport)
US-43 at mile marker 222.8 at Holcomb Road
AL-69 at mile marker 162.6 at Turkey Creek Road (Northport)
AL-69 at mile marker 167.9 at Goodwater Road & Northside Road (Northport)
AL-69 at mile marker 173.4 at Sherman Bolton Road
AL-43 at mile marker 214.7 near CR-38

Winston County
All road and bridges maintained by the county road department are impassable.
