American tornado + sand storm ?1 min read
Hello there. My question is very specific. I'm writing a fictional story which takes place in the US, and I'd like to implement a meteorological threat which would basically consists in something like a very dangerous tornado coupled with a sand storm. Ideally, this sand storm would form in the US, and therefore would not be caused by winds carrying sand from, say, the saharian desert, like it usually does. Everything must happen in the US.
I did some research, I came across what we call Dust devils, but they are pretty harmless. Dust storms can happen, but it has to be sand in my story, in order to give it a yellowish color (which is important for the plot). And generally, dust and sand storms are not dangerous per se, but can cause some breathing issues and vehicles accidents. But what I seek is really a destructive power, so this is why I'd like to couple it with a tornado.
Is there a name for these kind of meteorological phenomenons which I'm seeking ? If so, do you have any examples of times when it happened in the US ?
Thanks a lot.
