A Nice & Dry Midday Across Central Alabama

2 min read

RADAR CHECK: At 12:45 pm, a rare sight is being seen on radar… no showers during a summer afternoon in Central Alabama. That’s right, we are all dry with a good bit of sunshine at this time. Temperatures were in the upper 70s to the upper 80s, with Tuscaloosa leading the way at 89º. Alexander City and Auburn were the cool spots at 77º. Birmingham was sitting at 84º.

REST OF YOUR SATURDAY: We’ll continue to have partly to mostly sunny skies across the area today, with only a very small risk of a few isolated showers, mainly over the extreme southern and extreme eastern parts of the area. The better rain chances will be south of I-85. Highs will top out in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. We’ll be dry for tonight, with mostly clear skies. Lows in the mid 60s to the lower 70s.

HOW ABOUT SUNDAY: While it will be hotter tomorrow, the heat won’t be too oppressive as humidity levels remain low for this time of the year. Skies will be mostly sunny, with only a very small chance of an isolated shower along and south of I-85. The rest of Central Alabama will be dry. Highs in the lower to mid 90s.

THE TROPICS: Northwestern Gulf of Mexico… Shower and thunderstorm activity has increased since early this morning over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico in association with a broad low pressure area. However, surface pressures remain high, and any additional development should be slow to occur while the system moves slowly west-southwestward and approaches the Texas coast later today and tonight. The disturbance is forecast to move inland over southern Texas on Sunday morning. Regardless of development, locally heavy rains are possible along portions of the Texas coast through the weekend.
* Formation chance through 48 hours… low… 20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days… low… 20 percent.
