A Brief Weather Check Just Before 8 pm

1 min read

As of 7:47 pm, we do have some loud storms moving over portions of Tuscaloosa, Pickens, and Sumter counties, but the storms are staying well-behaved at the moment. Same story for the storms pushing over the Severe Thunderstorm Watch area in the northwest corner of the state. There are more storms back to the west in Mississippi, with only one active warning in effect at this time. Other than those cluster of storms, the rest of the area remains quiet at this time.

We still have plenty of surface-based instability in place over all of North/Central Alabama, with enough shear that we could see some strong to marginally severe storms with damaging winds and large hail as the main threats. While tornadoes are not expected tonight, there is a non-zero chance. So, we’ll have to keep our eyes open on any storms that ramp up.

NWS Huntsville continues a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH until 9 pm tonight for Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, and Limestone counties in North Alabama.
