Discussion
The main weather event this week will be the passage of a strong cold front late Thursday night that will usher in a cold air mass for Christmas Day (Friday). This strong front will be preceded by heavy rain from later Thursday into Thursday night and it’ll turn mild on Christmas Eve with temperatures well up in the 50’s along the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor. Winds will an important factor as well later on Thursday with gusts possible past 40 mph and there can be a thunderstorm as well. On the backside of the front, there can be snow shower activity early Friday and even an outside chance for small accumulations in the I-95 corridor. The much colder air that arrives on Friday will stick around into the upcoming weekend and next week promises to be quite energetic with the potential of a couple of storm threats to monitor.
