One More Chilly Day

***5:20 AM Tuesday update – Clouds will mix with some sunshine today and temperatures will be similar to yesterday – just a couple degrees colder than seasonal.

Early Spring-like Weather for Wednesday & Thursday

Much milder air from the Southeast U.S. will surge north into our region on Wednesday along with abundant sunshine and highs near +5°C.

Clouds will increase late in the day with scattered showers developing Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Thursday will be another very mild day but with more clouds than Wednesday. Late in the day, cold air will start to press back into our region and a system will track south of the border.

Brief Return to Wintry Weather

We are closely watching the timing for the return of the colder weather. At this point it looks like rain showers will develop across most of the region during the evening, but wet snow is possible well north of the 401. During Thursday night the rain will change to wet snow before ending overnight but no significant accumulation is expected.

Friday will be a blustery day with high temperatures near 0°C but with a noticeable wind chill. However, this cool down will be short-lived as milder weather will return during the Family Day long weekend.

Family Day Long Weekend

Fair weather and near seasonal temperatures are likely for Saturday. Sunday will be mostly sunny and much milder with temperatures rising back above freezing. Family Day will also be very mild, but rain showers are likely. High temperatures on Monday have the potential to overachieve and exceed current forecast numbers.

Very Mild Pattern Next Week

Next week will feature an extended period of milder weather and potentially more rain. Exceptionally warm weather will surge north into the Northeastern U.S. and we will be watching to see how much of this warmth will cross the border. At this point it looks like for the warmest air will stay south of the border and the cold Great Lakes will also keep our temperatures under control. However, with temperatures soaring into the teens (even lower 20s) not far away, it is possible that we have a double digit day or two next week.

Anyone following this site knows that the mild pattern next week is not how we expected February to end. There will be an abundance of arctic air and winter weather over Canada, but that will remain across western Canada through at least next week and possibly right through to the end of February. A couple of tropical cyclones in the western Pacific ocean have interrupted the evolution of the expected pattern over the Pacific Ocean which has an impact on our weather patterns as well. While we do not think that we are finished with significant winter weather, the timing for the transition back to a more wintry pattern is uncertain.
