London is set to reach scorching figures of 23 degrees Celsius on Thursday while the Spanish city could struggle to get into the 20s according to weather forecaster AccuWeather.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin was keen to explain that a new weather system will bring high pressure that will cause temperatures to “probably reach their peak” on Thursday.

He said: “The weather system will across the UK will continue to drift northwards through Wednesday night and high pressure will move in and warm southerly winds will bring their temperatures probably to their peak on Thursday.

“Central an eastern areas will be widely over 20 and 24 or 25 is possible.

“It is always going to be cooler on some coasts which may stay quite misty and murky.

“It will be cooler across Scotland and Northern Ireland but even there, temperatures will be higher than they have been for much of the spring so far.”

Bookmaker Coral has odds of 6-4 on this April being the hottest ever on record ahead of the heat blast.

The company’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “Many parts of the UK are set for a glorious ten days or so and with temperatures soaring through the twenties there’s a real chance now of this April going on to be the hottest we’ve ever seen.”

However Tuesday will start off wet in some northern parts of the country and could plague parts of Wales.

Mr Deakin added: “It will be a wet morning rush hour on the M8, a soggy start across Scotland.

“The rain will be especially heavy over parts of Dumfries and Galloway where it could cause some problems, there is a yellow warning in force here.

“The rain will trickle into Wales and there will be a little bit in the south-west of England and across north-west England too.

“Much of Scotland and Northern Ireland will brighten up after a dull and damp start but it will be blustery and there will be heavy showers coming into the far north-west.”

The meteorologist detailed that figures in eastern parts of England could hit as high as 19 degrees Celsius as warm air beings to enshroud the country.

Mr Deakin continued: “Meanwhile across much of eastern England, the sunshine may turn hazy but it will be warm, 18 or 19 degrees Celsius is possible.

“Under the clouds and outbreaks of rain thought it will be 11 or 12 degrees Celsius at best.

“The band of cloud and rain is a weather front which continues to weaken and the rain tends to fizzle out through the course of Tuesday evening.

“There will be a few more showers in the far north-west but for many, it will be a dry and fine start to Wednesday.”

Mr Deakin added that a new weather system will be responsible for raising temperatures again on Wednesday.

He went on: “A new weather front may just get going a little bit more through Wednesday so there will be some rain for a time across Northern Ireland and the showers will drift north over western Scotland and it will turn quite wet potentially over the Western Isles.

“But for many Wednesday brightens up and warms up, over 20 degrees in the sunshine across central and southern parts inland it will be 22 degrees Celsius is possible.

“It will be a bit cooler on some coasts with the cloudier conditions across the far-north.”
