A light wintry mix is possible late Sunday afternoon across the central and northern NC mountains, specifically in the counties of Avery, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Buncombe and Henderson; as well as the mountains of Caldwell, Burke, McDowell, Rutherford and Polk Counties.
Spotty and light sleet and freezing rain will mix in with the rain in some locations late Sunday afternoon across the central and northern mountains of Western North Carolina. A few spots, mainly along the higher ridges, will see a light glaze of ice develop, especially on elevated surfaces.
Use caution when walking and driving late Sunday, and be alert to encountering patchy ice conditions.
Temperatures will continue to warm through late evening to eventually allow all of the precipitation to change over to rain.
Fog is also a concern Sunday.
Be aware of reduced visibility in Buncombe County and parts west. Around 4:15 p.m,. visibility in the Sylva area was extremely poor.
