Showers and storms to be followed by cooler weather

The showers and thunderstorms that reached Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the early-morning hours Wednesday will give way to a partly sunny day with cooler temperatures, forecasters said Wednesday morning.

The day’s high temperature is expected to be near 77 degrees, with a nighttime low of about 60, according to an online forecast from the National Weather Service in Norton.

The service cautioned that the light rain is not enough to bring the region out of the “abnormally dry” category on the US Drought Monitor.

That monitor shows a band of moderate drought across parts of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine which also dips into northern Franklin County in Massachusetts.

The next several days will be a mix of sun and clouds, with no more rain in the forecast until Tuesday, when there is a 30 percent chance of showers, according to the weather service’s latest predictions.

Temperatures for the rest of the workweek are expected to remain cooler than they were for its start, with daily highs easing gradually from the upper 70s into the low 80s, before reaching about 86 on Sunday and 88 on Monday, according to the service.
