An early morning rain shower in the Grand Valley soaked the ground, but it doesn’t portend annual, typical monsoonal weather, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
Areas in the Grand Valley received between 0.1 inch to 0.2 inch of rain during a brief downpour this morning.
Today’s rainfall was the result of a weak cold front, but high pressure is building back up in the area for Sunday, Meteorologist Jimmy Fowler said.
Grand Junction last received rain on Aug. 16, when 0.03 inch of precipitation was recorded at the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
Before that, the area received 0.04 inch of rain on Aug. 5 and 0.01 inch of rain on Aug. 3.
Today’s rain that measured in at 0.07 at the airport just about doubles the amount of rain that had already fallen in August, 0.08 inch Fowler said.
“Any little bit helps,” he said.
Average rainfall for this time in August is 0.53 inch.
