If you were hoping for an end to the rain, you might have to wait until next week.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh’s forecast for this week shows rain every day except for a brief respite Thursday. There’s even a chance of thunderstorms on Friday.

A strong cold front moved south across central North Carolina on Monday, leaving much cooler air. Temperatures Monday afternoon fell dramatically – more than 10 degrees in just a few hours in some places. Temperatures awere expected to continue to drop into the mid-30s.

▪ Tuesday: Cold surface high pressure was expected to extend across the state Tuesday and Tuesday night. Cloudy skies will bring with them patchy drizzle. Temperatures are expected to be “well below normal” on Tuesday, the weather service said, with most of the area struggling to reach low and mid 40s, while some northern parts of the state might not reach 40.

Lows Tuesday night will be mostly in the mid 30s, with a few areas falling below freezing.

▪ Wednesday: More rain is possible during the day, but there’s a better chance of rain Wednesday night. High 62, low 52.

▪ Thursday: A sub-tropical elongated area of high pressure will extend north into the Mid-Atlantic during the latter half of the week. But it will be mostly across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys Thursday into Friday morning, leaving central North Carolina mostly dry Thursday and Thursday night. High 73, low 59.

▪ Friday: That front will cross into North Carolina on Friday afternoon and night, bringing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. High 72, low 41.

▪ Saturday and Sunday: Leftover showers will linger on Saturday as cool high pressure builds in behind the front for the rest of the weekend, when skies may clear briefly. Highs in the 50s, lows in the mid-30s.

▪ Monday: As the high pressure moves off the coast on Monday, scattered showers will return with above-normal temperatures.
