Icy in the mountains through morning, Rain in the Tri-Cities

Storm Team 11 Weather:

It will be quite messy tonight with mainly rain for the lower elevations, including the Tri-Cities. Travel will be trickier on some mountain roads with wintry precip mainly above 3,000 feet. Accumulations of sleet, snow, freezing rain, and ice are all on the table for those locations.

Wind Advisory: 40-50 mph gusts are possible tonight in Johnson, Carter, Unicoi and southern Greene Counties in Tennessee.

Winter Storm Warning: Up to 2 inches of sleet and snow along with freezing rain and some ice accumulation tonight and Sunday. This includes all of western North Carolina along with Grayson, Smythe, Tazewell, and Wythe Counties in Virginia and extends northeast toward Bluefield and Roanoke. Be careful!

Tonight: Aside from the wintry precip in the mountains, most of us in the Tri-Cities area will see a cold rain tonight as moisture spreads over the region and the surface temperatures are too warm. Chance of rain: 90%. Low: 36

Sunday: Cloudy with light rain showers at times. A little mountain snow possible, especially later in the day. Chance of precipitation: 60%. High: 46

Sunday night: Cloudy with a light rain/snow mix possible. Little to no accumulation. Low: 34

Monday: Cloudy and cool. As the moisture moves out we could see a little drizzle and/or light snow snow showers. Chance of precipitation: 50%. High: 40

It will turn sunnier Tuesday with a high of 44 and low of 27. Temperatures will rebound to near 50 degrees Wednesday with a mix of clouds and sun. Our next chance of rain is Thursday and especially Friday/Saturday with highs in the 50s.

Take care,
