Fairly Widespread Rain Likely Over West Bengal and Jharkhand

Thursday

Southwest monsoon is becoming favorable and further advancing into Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and some areas of Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sikkim in the coming 2 or 3 days.

A cyclonic circulation over the northeastern India along with south westerly humid winds from Bay of Bengal lead to an instability over eastern and northeastern states. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Thursday and scattered rain and thunderstorms can possibly hit Arunachal Pradesh as well.

Another cyclonic circulation with a surface low pressure system are located over the northeast of the Bay of Bengal as of Thursday morning. This cyclonic circulation and the surface low pressure are forecast to develop and move northwestward. It is likely to bring fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms over Jharkhand and West Bengal. Bihar and Chhattisgarh. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are also likely to receive scattered rainfall and thunderstorms on Thursday.

Westerly humid winds from Arabian Sea produce heavy rain and thunderstorms over western coastal and parts of south and west India. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Telangana on Thursday. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are also possible over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience scattered rain or snow and thunderstorms as well.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are possible over some areas of northern, western and southern India, while minimum temperatures are below normal over some parts central India on Thursday. Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are thus likely over Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Friday and Beyond

A prevailing cyclonic circulation over northeast will lead to the continued and prolonged unstable conditions over eastern and northeastern India for the next 5 days. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Jharkhand. Also, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive scattered rainfall and thunderstorms as well.

The cyclonic circulation and surface low present over the Bay of Bengal is likely to reach West Bengal and Odisha on Friday afternoon. This cyclonic circulation and low pressure brings heavy rain and thunderstorms over eastern and northeastern India from Friday to Sunday morning. Heavy rain and thunderstorms likely over Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Odisha on Friday. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh are also likely to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms.

The westerly winds from the Arabian Sea continue to cause instability in the conditions over western coastal and southern India for the next 5 days. Heavy rain and thunderstorms likely over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Telangana. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan. Also, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive isolated rain or snow and thunderstorms.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are likely over Delhi from Friday. The max temperatures are likely to remain below normal over a few parts of northern, central, western and eastern India and above normal or near average over other parts of southern and northeastern India for the next 5 days. Minimum temperatures are below normal over central and eastern India on Friday and Saturday due to rainfall. Minimum temperatures over the other areas are near average or above normal in this period.

The maximum temperatures of 40°C or more likely over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Maharashtra. The air quality will be very poor over northern, central, western and eastern India, especially in major cities like Delhi.
