Spring officially arrives this week and Upstate New York’s weather will be normal for the changing of the season with a variety of fluctuating temperatures and weather conditions.
Much like the weekend, the start of this week will be cool with a mix of sun and snow showers. Northwest winds will produce a spray of lake effect snow bursts across Western New York, the Finger Lakes, and Central New York.
These snow showers will result in brief bouts of low visibility and a quick coating of snow. Sunshine between the bursts will melt the snow just as quickly as it accumulates.
Elsewhere, Monday will be rather sunny with just a few passing clouds from time to time. High temperatures will generally range through the 30s. The Adirondacks will stick in the upper 20s while the Capital Region approaches 40 degrees.
A small disturbance will pass through Upstate New York on Tuesday with additional snow showers in the morning. These will be most likely south and southeast of Lake Ontario but will also spread into the Catskills and southern Adirondacks. Little to no accumulation is expected.
Sunshine will be abundant Tuesday afternoon behind the system with temperatures in the low and mid 40s along and south of I-90. Mid and upper 30s are likely in the North Country and highs will be around 30 degrees in the Adirondacks.
Wednesday will be a quiet day with sunshine, some clouds late, and a south wind that will continue to push temperatures upwards.
High temperatures will be around 50 degrees throughout the southern half of Upstate New York and along I-81 to about Watertown. Highs will be in the 40s through the remainder of the North Country and most of the Adirondacks.
Another weak weather system will move in for Thursday with widespread light rain showers. Some snow may mix in during the morning and evening over higher elevations with snow also falling during the afternoon in the highest peaks of the Adirondacks.
Thursday’s temperatures will be cooler with the clouds and precipitation with low 40s for most and upper 30s in the higher elevations.
Friday will end the work week similar to how it is starting with highs generally in the 30s and a spray of lake effect snow showers south and east of Lake Ontario.
