CENTRAL FLORIDA WEATHER: Stormy start: Wind and rain blowing into Central Florida

The week is getting off to a stormy start as strong storms soak Central Florida.

WFTV Channel 9 meteorologist Brian Shields said storms are likely throughout the afternoon on Monday. He said the storms are expected to bring gusty winds, downpours and lightning across the area.

Shields said locals need to be ready to seek shelter if and when the weather takes a turn.

“If you hear thunder, get indoors,” he said.

Meteorologist Rusty McCranie tracked morning storms that soaked areas in Marion, Volusia, Lake and Flagler counties.

McCranie said the majority of Monday’s storms will be coming in from the west.

“They’ll continue to develop and move deeper into Central Florida throughout the morning,” he said.

McCranie said Central Florida can expect a severe thunderstorm watch across the area as storms roll in.

As of 11:25 a.m., the storms were already causing delays at Orlando International Airport.

The National Weather Service said a strong storm was moving in to the Windermere area just before noon bringing with it possibly nickle-sized hail.

The storms made their way to the metro-Orlando area just before noon.
